December 12 (RALEIGH, NC) – For the second time, f8 Photo Studios in Raleigh served as photographer of record for WakeMed Foundation’s annual “Society of 1961” gala reception and dinner, which was held at North Ridge Country Club in Raleigh. The featured speaker this year was former NBC Nightly News anchor Tom Brokaw.
The Society of 1961 was established to honor the history and tradition of WakeMed, which opened in 1961. Each year, the Foundation’s board of directors and the WakeMed administration select a specific expansion project or an enhancement to a specific area of care for financial support from the Foundation’s annual fund proceeds. The annual gala recognizes donors who contributed $1250 or above on an annual basis.
While Kaz and Galati worked the event, they also listened to Brokaw talk about his newest book entitled “Boom! Voice of the Sixties: Personal Reflections on the 60s and Today” (Random House, 2007).
“It was interesting enough to hear Tom talk about his experiences in his life with profound meaning and depth,” Kaz said afterwards. “Although I was still a twinkle in my mothers wine glass, I do understand all the changes that the late ‘60s brought with it,” he added, “from the death of JFK and Dr. Martin Luther King to the Watergate scandal.”
Kaz was so taken with the book that he posted the link to the Los Angeles Times’ review of “Boom!” On f8 Photo Studios’ website’s blog (www.f8photostudios.blogspot.com). Galati almost managed to get a photo of Kaz and Brokaw together and posted it on the website.
f8 Photo Studios has been working with WakeMed since April of 2006. Besides hospital and Foundation events, Galati and Kaz have provided photography services for WakeMed’s brochures and its in-house magazine.
