October 6, 2008 (RALEIGH, NC) – Purple Armchair, host for the 2008 CHAIRity Gala & Auction to benefit Habitat for Humanity of Wake County, is pleased to announce that recording artist Alisa Turner will perform live during the free event, which will be held Saturday, October 11, from 7-11 p.m.
Turner, a singer and songwriter, has been compared to Sarah McLachlan, Regina Spektor, and Fiona Apple. An accomplished pianist, she accompanies herself on keyboard.
Turner recently signed with the Gotee Records/Warner Brothers label, although she has already completed two CDs: “Bittersweet” and “…I Write Sad Songs.” Both can be found on iTunes. Her work can also be heard on http://www.myspace.com/alisaturner.
Alisa Turner was born in Hawaii and “moved around a lot,” she said, since her father was a pastor. Raleigh is now her home base.
The 2008 CHAIRity Gala & Auction involves the efforts of nearly 40 local artists who have “recycled” old wooden chairs from Habitat/Wake’s ReStore into original works of art, which will be auctioned off to benefit Habitat/Wake.
Besides the auction and Turner’s musical entertainment, the event will include food by Margaux’s, Humble Pie and Coco Rue Confections, wine, and more. The event is free and open to the public with everyone registering at the door to potentially bid on the chairs-turned-art.
Co-sponsors include: the Raleigh Downtowner and Raleigh Chronicle, the Downtown Raleigh Alliance, Margaux’s, Humble Pie, Coco Rue Confections, Killer Creative Group, blueplate pr, and professional auctioneer Cheri Faux.
Purple Armchair is located on North West Street one block from Glenwood South. Normal Business hours are Wednesday-Thursday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Friday and Saturday 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Sunday noon to 5 p.m. The store is closed Mondays and Tuesdays.
