Music students participate in the town’s Summer Night Out event.

August 2, 2010 (SALISBURY, NC) — The Salisbury School of Music’s Summer Band Jam group will performing during downtown Salisbury’s “Summer Night Out” on Friday, August 6th, in front of the historic Meroney Theatre, 213 South Main Street. Performances will be at 7:00 and 8:00 PM. A special guest, SSM voice and theory student McClain Miles, will be singing during the break between the band performances.
Summer Band Jam musicians include: Willow Beeker, vocals; Kevin Aitken, lead guitar; Miles Cloninger, rhythm guitar; Salisbury School of Music instructor Patrick Reaves, bass guitar; and faculty instructor Hayes Smith, drums.
The students have been improving their musical skills at the school this summer as they have been learning how to play with other musicians. With the help of instructors who are all professional musicians — including the school’s artistic director Marc Hoffman — they’ve worked on stage presence, harmonizing, arranging and other keys to becoming a good band member.
“This group had done a tremendous job these past two months,” Hoffman said. “Their enthusiasm for and growth as musicians has been amazing. Thanks to the success of the Summer Band Jam the SSM will be adding the program once weekly on a year-round basis.”
The Summer Band Jam students and faculty performed together for the first time on Friday, July 16, also in front of the Meroney Theatre where the Salisbury School of Music is located.
Salisbury’s Summer Night Out will take place from 5-9 p.m. throughout the downtown business district. Other events include several musical performances, such as The Brubakers on East Fisher Street, face painting, free trolley rides, and a variety of specials and refreshments at downtown businesses that will stay open late for the event.
