Pretty In Pink Foundation Commemorates Five Years Of Supporting North Carolina Women With Breast Cancer

Pretty In Pink Foundation, a North Carolina non-profit organization, celebrates 5 years of providing hope, health and healing to underinsured and uninsured North Carolinians diagnosed with breast cancer.

May 14, 2009 (Raleigh, NC) — Founded in 2004 by breast cancer surgeon, Dr. Lisa Tolnitch, Pretty In Pink Foundation, headquartered in Raleigh, North Carolina, is a privately owned, not for profit organization.  To date, Pretty In Pink Foundation has helped 19 women in North Carolina beat the odds of breast cancer and become breast cancer champions.  On Monday, May 18, 2009, Pretty In Pink Foundation will celebrate the lives of the women it has helped, as well as the vision to have a point of presence in every state by 2020.

In a standing ceremony from noon to 1 p.m. in The Gardens at Rex Hospital at 4420 Lake Boone Trail, Raleigh, NC, Pretty In Pink Foundation will kick off the anniversary event entitled “Celebrating 5 Years Of Hope” by planting a tree in the courtyard and cutting the symbolic pink ribbon.  Rex Hospital has donated a place in The Gardens by the courtyard to have a commemorative tree planted in honor of Pretty In Pink Foundation’s 5 year anniversary.  Dr. Lisa Tolnitch will be presented with a special anniversary gift by WRAL news anchor, Debra Morgan.  Pretty In Pink Foundation board of directors will be acknowledged for their steadfast commitment to the mission. The ceremony is open to the public.

Dr. Tolnitch remarked, “As a breast cancer surgeon, I’ve seen many advances in breast cancer over the past two decades.  Even with these advances the one thing that hasn’t changed is seeing women fall between the proverbial cracks of the healthcare system.  Through Pretty In Pink Foundation, women who are normally classified as the working poor, with limited, if any medical insurance, have an ally when it comes to paying for breast cancer support and treatment. Much has been accomplished over the past five years at Pretty In Pink Foundation and there’s still more work to be done.”
