May 13, 2009 (RALEIGH, NC) – Jessica Williams and Whitney Page of Lather Hair Salon in Raleigh traveled to New York City recently to attend The International Beauty Show New York, a leading trade show and educational opportunity for members of the professional beauty industry.
Among the 125 classes available in haircutting, styling, color, makeup and salon business available at this year’s IBS New York Show, the Lather stylists first attended a seminar taught by Martin Parsons, a Canadian hair stylist renowned for his quick and elegant up-dos. Wedding makeup and hair is one of the Raleigh hair salon’s specialties, so the stylists were eager to see Parsons’ latest innovations, Williams said.
Whitney Page then attended a coloring and foiling techniques class presented by Adrienne Rogers of Cutler Salon and Hush Salon in New York, while Williams, who owns the Raleigh hair salon, attended a business class entitled “How To Increase Your Cash Flow,” conducted by Gary Ahlquist, a well-known salon business consultant.
“It was very informative,” Williams said. “Gary Ahlquist consults with small businesses all over the country. He gave great hints and tips on how to make your retail area work better, how to promote more retail products so that your product is flying off the shelf, and how salon owners should compensate their staff.”
Later in the day, Williams and Page participated in an airbrush makeup application class presented by Danielle Fonseca for Temptu Pro, an international brand that creates innovative cosmetics. Airbrush makeup application is a special service available at Lather Hair Salon.
“I’m always the person applying airbrush makeup for others,” Williams noted, “so besides increasing my skills through the class, getting my own makeup applied was a great opportunity for me to experience exactly what my clients experience when they’re sitting in my chair.”
