“Latherwear” Returns For Fall & Winter

September 23, 2009 (RALEIGH, NC) – When Lather Hair Salon introduced “Latherwear” this summer, the Raleigh salon’s logo tee-shirts sold out as regular and new clients welcomed the discount that came with purchasing one of the all-cotton tees.

That promotion officially ended, like summer, on Labor Day. Now Lather Hair Salon has rolled out its new fall and winter Latherwear: soft brown hooded sweatshirts emblazoned with Lather’s light-blue logo. And with each purchase ($39.95), clients receive 20 percent off all the services they receive that day. If their services total $200, the “hoodie” is free.

“The logo tees were so popular this summer that we wanted to keep it going,” said Lather’s owner and senior stylist Jessica Williams. “We love the idea of folks wearing our ‘Latherwear’ out there, and we know they appreciate a discount in this difficult economy.”

The “Latherwear” logo hoodies are the newest special offering at Lather Hair Salon. The salon’s website continues to offer a 20-perent-off coupon for first-time clients only as well as other daily specials, such as “hair makeover Mondays” and “hump day highlights.”

Now there’s another reason: To get deep discounts on hair care services.

Lather Hair Salon, a new full-service salon in North Raleigh, offers special same-day deals to its Facebook friends and fans. They can be scrolling through the day’s (or hour’s) postings and suddenly come upon:

“Becky, Lauren, and Whitney have open appointments today. Call and receive 50% off!!” Or: “Haircuts are 30% off today! Rebecca, Whitney, and Lauren have time from 2-4.”

Jessica Williams, owner and senior stylist at Lather Hair Salon, explained that the idea to use Facebook like this just came to her one day when one of her team of stylists had a cancellation. She told her salon manager to post the opening on Facebook, with a discount, and see what happened.

“Within minutes, we had a call,” she said.

Now the Raleigh hair salon makes it a daily habit to post any openings and offer a discount as an incentive to fill them.

Williams said she originally launched Lather’s Facebook page for the usual good-business reasons. “Facebook increases awareness of the salon and helps us stay connected with the local community. We build friendships through the page and maintain customer loyalty. If we have a special coming up or a great how-to tip to offer, we make sure they’re noted on Facebook, often with a link to our website. It’s just a friendly thing to do and another way to be ‘out there’ while we’re working in the salon.”

To get access to these same-day savings, Facebook users must become “fans” of Lather Hair Salon and mention that they saw the special online.

At a time when everyone is pinching pennies, these deep discounts are a win-win proposition – for the customer and the salon.
