Six Tips For Springing Into Spring With Style

May 20, 2009 (RALEIGH, NC) – Spring is here and you know what that means in the South: unpredictable weather.  It can be hot, chilly, humid, rainy, and windy, and all in the same day!  Here are five tips from Lather Hair Salon in Raleigh (www.latherhairsalonnc.com) to help you beat the South’s extreme Spring weather and get the look you want.

Rain Date

Tip 1. Rain can definitely put a damper on a finished hairstyle, so make sure you protect that ‘do. When you get out of the shower, apply an anti-frizz serum to your hair such as Sebastian’s Liquid Steel. It will shield your hair against the warm humidity. And always have an umbrella handy. Rain means damp hair, and damp hair means frizzy fly-aways.

Tip 2. To defeat that tricky sideways rain, embrace your Jackie-O style and grab a cute scarf to tie around your head. You’ll look stylish and, by the time you’ve reached your destination, you can unwrap a perfectly “together” ‘do.

It’s also always a good idea to have a “rescue bag” in your purse just in case you get caught without an umbrella or scarf.  Put a few bobby pins, a hair tie, a travel-sized hair spray (Sebastian Re-Shaper works really well), and a mini comb in a plastic baggie, drop it in your purse, and you’ll be set.

Tip 3. If the worst-case scenario happens — you end up drenched – you can still rally with style. When your hair is partially dry, teasing the top portion for height, then pull the rest back into a tightly secured ponytail. It’s a stylish twist on a classic pony that will allow you to slick back and secure otherwise frizzy hair.

Spring-Fresh Face and a Classic Cut

Tip 4. Coming out of winter, everyone craves a new, fresh look. Start by brightening up your skin: Exfoliate those dead, winter cells away. You want to start the season with healthy, shining skin.

Tip 5. Now is the perfect time for a new spring style.  A great haircut for spring and summer is a classic bob, customized to your desired length and cut.  A bob is almost hassle-free and won’t frizz or curl like a style with many layers. Bobs also bring attention to your eyes so you can wear less makeup in the summer heat.

Tip 6. To brighten up your hair for sunny weather, try a few highlights in the front, framing your face. This is a great and inexpensive way to change your look.

Spring weather can be a challenging, but if you keep these styling tricks up your sleeve, you’ll always look great and fashionable — despite the weather!

Lather Hair Salon in Raleigh Welcomes New Staff Members

April 29, 2009 (RALEIGH, NC) –  Lather, a Raleigh hair salon, has announced the addition of Schuyler Kathleen Smith to its staff. Smith is the salon’s new full-time coordinator.

Smith’s responsibilities include coordinating the salon’s schedule and appointment book.  She answers all incoming calls and makes daily reminder calls for clients.  She keeps up with hair care information and uses her knowledge to update the Raleigh hair salon’s “Hair Academy 101” Blog (latherhairsalon.wordpress.com). She also pays special attention to the front of the salon, making sure all the products are well organized and answering any questions or concerns clients may have.

Smith recently hired a part-time coordinator, Meagan Spangler, to help with the Raleigh hair salon during evening hours and on Saturdays.

Originally from Raleigh, Schuyler Smith moved to San Diego, California, after graduating from Western Carolina University in 2006 with a degree in criminal justice. She also served as vice president of Delta Zeta sorority at WCU and as a role-model blogger.

In San Diego, Smith worked for an insurance company and in various fine-dining establishments where she rose quickly to team leader. She returned to Raleigh in October 2008 and worked as a coordinator for “It’s Just Lunch,” a dating service for busy singles, until IJL was sold and moved to Florida. Her former manager introduced her to Lather Hair Salon’s owner Jessica Williams.

“I am super excited to work at Lather because I love keeping up with the different styles and trends people can have with their hair,” Smith said. “Your hairstyle can make you feel so unique and fresh. I love being in an environment that leaves people walking out the door happy. And the girls here are beyond welcoming. It’s such a fun atmosphere to be in.”

Lather is a full-service, upscale Raleigh hair salon located at 8521 Cantilever Way near the corner of Glenwood Ave./Highway 70 and Ebenezer Church Road. Lather Hair Salon Revamps Website, Highlights Bridal Services, Helpful Blog

March 10, 2009 (RALEIGH, NC) – Lather Hair Salon, a full-service salon in North Raleigh that opened in October 2008, has revamped its website – www.latherhairsalonnc.com — to make it more engaging and to more fully express the many layers of the salon’s services.

One of those “layers” is Lather’s in-salon and on-site wedding services. Accessed via the “weddings and make-up” tab on the front page, services include bridal party consultations for hair care, color and styling for the Big Day, practice sessions for make-up and hair for the bride and her attendants, and full make-up and hair on the wedding day either in the salon or at the location of the wedding.

Lather Hair Salon’s upgraded website also features a Wedding Planner that outlines hair and make up concerns from six months before the event to the day of the wedding.

Another unusual element of Lather Hair Salon’s services on the website is “Hair Academy 101,” which is now accessible from page one. Hair Academy 101 is the salon’s blog, offering insights and advice on a host of topics pertinent to anyone who cares for his or her hair. Blog topics range from “The Truth and Nothing But The Truth Behind Drugstore Brands” (“The differences lie in the cleansing agent used…”) and “To Color or to Highlight – That is the Question,” to valuable hints and tips on how to stretch your hair care dollars, such as choosing styles and colors that require less upkeep and letting your hair’s natural oil substitute for expansive conditioners.

“Lets face it,” this blog entry begins. “We’re in a recession, times are tight, and taking care of your hair isn’t quite falling as high as it once did on our list of needs and must haves.”

The website also features a full list of Lather Hair Salon’s services, descriptions of products the salon carries, specials available every week (including perks for those who come in to donate their hair to Locks of Love), information on the salon’s owner and stylists, and an online form for making appointments.

Lather Hair Salon is located in North Carolina at 8521 Cantilever Way off Glenwood Avenue/Highway 70. For more information, including business hours, visit the website at www.latherhairsalonnc.com.

Salon Moxie Presents “On Location” by Peter Christopher Hutson

March 5, 2008, 2008 (RALEIGH, NC) – “On Location” a selection of images from fine art photographer Peter Christopher Hutson’s recent world travels, is currently on display at Salon Moxie in North Raleigh and will remain up through April.

Hutson owns and operate PCH Photography in Raleigh. He divides his time between commercial photography for clients and traveling the globe to create fine art images for himself and his growing patron base.

Salon Moxie opened in North Raleigh last summer and has been hosting revolving art exhibits since then. The salon is a new concept from Jack and Joelle Ray, owners of the more upscale Samuel Cole Salon on Newton Road, Raleigh, to fill the void between “budget” salons and the more expensive destinations. According to the Rays, the vibe at Salon Moxie is “fresh, hip, and high-energy,” so the art exhibits are “a natural fit.”

Salon Moxie is located at 6191-122 Falls of Neuse Road, Raleigh. For more information, including business hours, visit http://www.salon-moxie.com or call 919-850-0721.
