River Bend NC To Host Special Tour of Waterfront Homes and Gardens

Including a memorial tour of Chick Wooten murals.

August 24, 2011 (New Bern, NC) — A special tour of five waterfront homes and gardens, along with a memorial tour of murals by the late North Carolina artist Chick Wooten, will be held in River Bend, NC, on Saturday, September 17, from noon to 4 p.m. during the “Homes on the Waters of River Bend Tour.”

The homes on the tour offer a variety of architectural styles at different locations along the waterways of River Bend, including the Trent River, Plantation Canal and Island Lake. Interior designs range from contemporary to traditional. One of the homes features artifacts from all over the world. And all five have waterfront views.

Homes on the tour can be visited any time and in any order during tour hours, and refreshments will be served. The featured homes are:

  • The Camille and Jim Hoffman residence at 104 Plantation Drive
  • The Catherine and Richard Ewan residence at 318 Plantation Drive
  • The Lynne and Phil Seymour residence at 250 Shoreline Drive
  • The Debbie and Al Alcoff residence at 114 Mariners Court
  • The Marci and Gerry Crawford residence at 103 Raft Road

Chick Wooten’s primitive murals are located throughout RHA Howell’s River Bend Center for the developmentally disabled at 140 Pirates Road, New Bern. The center will be open during tour hours. Wooten was known for his paintings of life in the Carolina countryside. The central themes of his work are family life, togetherness especially in tough times, and the importance of faith and community traditions.

Advance tickets to the tour are $10 and are available at The River Bend Market, the River Bend Country Club, Trent River Realty, and the RHA Howell River Bend Center. Tickets on the day of the tour are $12.

The River Bend Garden Club, The Epiphany School, the Girls Scouts Troops 279 & 1184, and the New Bern Woman’s Club are sponsoring the home and garden tour. All proceeds will be donated to the RHA Howell River Bend Center and the Rhems First Responders.

“Blue Tie” Event Changes A Bit — For The Better

Jim Quick & The Coastline Band

March 29, 2010 (NEW BERN, NC) –  With three weeks to go before its big “Blue Tie One Night One Cause” fundraising event at the Riverfront Hilton in New Bern on April 17, RHA Howell, Inc. announces an addition to the evening’s entertainment. Recording artists “Jim Quick & The Coastline Band,” a popular soul, blues, rock and “beach music” band from Wilmington, NC, will provide live music to complement the evening’s food, Blue Tie “tini’s”, and live and silent auctions.

“Since we had to make the change, we decided to go for it,” said RHA Howell events coordinator Debbie Valentine. “The Coastline Band puts on a fabulous show and is incredibly popular. Our Blue Tie guests and sponsors are in for a real treat!”

Live music wasn’t originally planned for the event, which will raise funds for children and adults with disabilities in RHA Howell’s Tar River and River Bend Centers and Greenville Group Homes.

“We had originally planned a night of casino-themed games, but local authorities said ‘No dice,’ “ said Valentine. “So we regrouped, re-planned, and came up with a Blue Tie night that’s better than ever!”

The event also still features a silent and live auction that will give party-goers a chance to bid on five major entertainment packages including 2 tickets to the sold-out Las Vegas Jimmy Buffet concert, a “girlfriends” weekend shopping spree in NY, and a Halloween weekend in New Orleans.

Tickets to “Blue Tie One Night One Cause” are $50 each with tables of 10 available for $400. Seating is limited. To purchase advance tickets, go to www.rhahowell.org/BlueTie.aspx or call RHA Howell event coordinator Debbie Valentine at 919-803-2690. Preferred attire is “dressy cocktail” with an emphasis on blue rather than black tie. Doors open at 6 p.m.

“We look forward to a fun, fabulous evening with all of our guests and the Coastline Band,” Valentine said, “for one night and one cause: supporting children and adults with disabilities.”
