June 3, 2010 (RALEIGH) – Pretty In Pink Foundation, the only not-for-profit organization in North Carolina that provides financial resources for uninsured and underinsured breast cancer patients with limited financial means, marks its sixth year of lifesaving service this summer, and Lather Hair Salon in Raleigh intends to help celebrate that benchmark with an in-salon fundraiser entitled “6 + 6 = HOPE.”
On Saturday, June 19, from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m., every Lather customer who donates $6 to Pretty In Pink Foundation will receive $6 off his or her salon services, plus an extra 15 percent discount for those spending at least $50 on salon services.
“Pretty In Pink Foundation offers hope for women across the state who would not be able to receive the life-saving treatment they need to survive a breast cancer diagnosis otherwise,” said Lather’s owner and senior stylist, Jessica Williams. “I can’t imagine what it would be like to find out you have breast cancer and have no means of paying for your treatment because you don’t have insurance or have inadequate insurance. That’s why we want to help. And that’s why we named our fundraiser ‘6 + 6 = HOPE.’ Six dollars plus six years equals hope and health!”
Dr. Lisa Tolnitch, a breast cancer surgeon in Raleigh, founded Pretty In Pink Foundation in May of 2004 as a vehicle for breast cancer patients who desperately needed care, treatment and surgery, but had no means of paying for service. The Foundation’s ultimate goal is to have a point of presence in every state in the nation.
“Besides raising money for the Foundation, we want to help raise awareness of the remarkable work that the folks at Pretty In Pink Foundation do every day,” Williams said. She noted that informational materials will be available in the salon that day along with Pretty In Pink Foundation “goody bags” for customers who make the $6 donation.
Lather, an upscale, full-service salon, makes it a regular practice to give back to the community. In September of 2009, Lather’s stylists participated in “PinkFest 2009” to kick off National Breast Cancer Awareness month. More recently, the salon sponsored its first “Help Me, Lather. I Need A Make-over” essay contest, which resulted in a complete make-over – hair and make-up – for a breast cancer survivor in Cary.
Lather Hair Salon is located off Glenwood Avenue/Highway 70 West near Carmax. Anyone interested in participating in “6 + 6 = Hope” should contact the salon to make an appointment by either calling 919-792-0715, emailing schuyler@latherhairsalonnc.com, or going online at www.latherhairsalonnc.com (click on “appointments”).
“Our Saturdays fill up quickly,” Williams stressed, “so appointments for June 19 should be made as soon as possible.”
