Informal dinners connect noted local Modernist house architects with the public.
December 13, 2010 (RALEIGH, NC) — Dreaming of a new Modernist house? Long admired the work of a local architect or designer? Thinking about architecture as a career? Triangle Modernist Houses offers the general public the opportunity to enjoy dinners with prominent members of the Triangle’s design community in a casual, small-group setting during the nonprofit organization’s second “Appetite 4 Architecture” (A4A) series.
“A4A’s are opportunities to enjoy easy, informal discussions in an upscale dining environment with direct access to some of the area’s best residential architects and designers,” said TMH founder and director George Smart. “Participants are welcome to discuss anything they want with an array of award-winning professionals. There are no presentations or PowerPoint slides — just great conversations over delicious meals.”
Starting January 11, 2011, all (except for March 8) Appetite 4 Architecture dinners will be held at 18 Seaboard Contemporary American Grill in Raleigh and begin at 6:30 pm. The dinners include three courses (appetizer, entree, dessert) from a pre-selected menu, plus coffee/water/tea, tax, and gratuity. Vegetarian options are available and alcoholic beverages are available separately. The architects and designers on tap for this year’s series of A4A dinners include: 
January 11: Vinny Petrarca, Randy Lanou, and Will Alphin ($49).
January 25: Recent Kamphoefner Prize winners Phil Szostak, FAIA, and Jeffrey Lee, FAIA, with NCSU College of Design Dean Marvin Malecha, FAIA ($49).
February 8: Frank Harmon, FAIA (architect for the new AIA NC Center for Architecture & Design in downtown Raleigh); AIA NC Executive Vice President David Crawford, and Steve Schuster, AIA, who led the way to find financing for the new building. Proceeds from this dinner benefit the AIA NC building fund ($49).
February 11: Dail Dixon, FAIA, Kenneth Hobgood, FAIA, and Louis Cherry, FAIA ($49).
March 8: Ellen Cassilly, AIA, and her husband Frank Konhaus, with builder Leon Meyers and artist-in-residence Ann Ehringhaus. Special location: Cassilhaus, the Cassiliy-Konhaus home, 6301 Mimosa Drive in Chapel Hill ($59).
March 22: Turan Duda, AIA, Mike Rantilla, AIA, and Art Lin – all of whom have designed (and in some cases built) their own houses ($49).
